Rainwater harvesting
Rainwater harvesting is a very simple concept. It relies on collecting the rainwater that falls onto a properties roof, storing it, filtering it and then re-using it in the place of mains water.
The results and benefits are fairly straightforward. Firstly, the household's mains water consumption is reduced, this in turn reduces the households overall mains water consumption which then reduces the mains water bill. This concept also reduces the households overall environmental impact.
What can it be used for?
There are many applications in which harvested rainwater can be used. For example, WC and urinal flushing; irrigation and landscape watering; vehicle washing; laundry; and cooling or with fire sprinkler systems to name a few.
How does it work?
Rainwater harvesting is a simple concept. It takes rainwater from the roof area of the property, down the normal gutters. This then passes through a pre tank filter and then into a water storage tank, which is installed underground and surrounded in concrete.
The rainwater is then stored in the tank until called for by the control unit within your home. The control unit houses a low energy pump which brings the rainwater through the second stage of filtration and direct to the appliances.
The systems can also be switched on/off and normally activate themselves to use mains water in periods of low rainfall.
